I always thought RoboCop was for nerds. I only watched the first movie about a year ago, and I went into it with the idea that it was going to be some “Marvel-esque” cop movie that kids thought were cool in the 80’s.
I admit I was wrong, and foolish…
The movie was great. It was brutal, satisfying and RoboCop as a character was much cooler than I first anticipated. Then I saw there was a game released fairly recently named “RoboCop: Rogue City”. I only saw some clips of it, and my first impressions were pretty much: “This game looks nice”, “Wow, the shooting is satisfying” and “RoboCop looks badass”. I’m glad to say that my impressions were valid when I started playing it.

The game feels very much like a double A game. It has really nice graphics, the environments are cool and the combat felt gory and really good. The thing is, it’s very limited. It’s not at all a “deep” game, but I really think that’s fine.
It’s a first person shooter where you go through levels and.. well, shoot things? The objectives are always very straight forward, with some few gimmicky features like disarming a bomb, etc. After completing the levels the game let’s you explore a very limited area where you’re able to do some sidequests and find secrets. The rewards you get from doing these activities are experience points, and maybe some stat mods for your main gun. There’s not really any customization, and the leveling is also very simplistic with a few abilities you can learn – which I never used.

Although it might not be a very complex game, the environments, graphics, sidequests and combat are all really well made. The story has its ups, but it’s mostly just a generic “cop thriller” that felt almost “cartoony” at times. I actually appreciated the size, since nothing (aside from the main quest at times) felt like it “overstayed”. There were a few flaws though that made me feel as depressed as the people living in this game…

There’s this one punk song that plays multiple times during the game. I fucking hated it.
The main villain looked like emo Liam Neeson.
The voice acting was shit.
And the characters looked like ass.
That said, I didn’t really expect anything special from this game, and it was a pretty fun experience through and through. It took me about 9 hours to complete it and get all the achievements. All in all, I think it carried itself pretty well – 7/10.
