Wobbly Life

I’ve got three words; “GTA for children”

Technically that’s five words, but it doesn’t matter. That is the absolute best way I can describe this game.

I found Wobbly Life randomly when browsing Steam. At first I brushed it off as “just a kiddy game”, but I noticed that the reviews were exceptionally high, and decided to give it a look. It looked cool, but I didn’t think too much about it. But it started spreading, slowly burrowing into the back of my mind. I kept thinking about it as if some weird, cursed creepypasta had gotten a hold on me. Then one day me and my friends didn’t have any coop games to play and decided to give it a chance.

Boy oh boy..

What I first thought was a simple kids game turned out to be one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a while.

Wobbly Life is an open world sandbox game, where you run around a city doing different jobs and finding secrets. As you keep playing you’ll mainly unlock weird and fun vehicles and unique outfits with perks. All the jobs are different and require you to use the physics engine to complete. Think GTA meets Human Fall Flat. The jobs can be anything from delivering newspapers with a gun, to helping excavate a mine with loads of dynamite. The secrets are well hidden, but fun and satisfying to find and complete. As you complete jobs you get money that you need to deposit into ATM machines around the world. With the money you can buy outfits, cars or even random objects to play around with. You can also just steal some cars, but since it’s a kids game I guess it’s more akin to “borrowing” them.. even if you never give them back.

There are some unique outfits and vehicles as well. A jetpack that let’s you fly, a frog backpack that makes you jump higher, ice shoes that make you slide everywhere. Some of the vehicles you can get is a UFO, a super cop car and even.. a huge jelly cake with wheels…

It’s silly, fun and also family friendly. I’ve played this game for hours with friends, but also a ton with my kid. It’s one of those cases where I genuinely believe anyone can enjoy it – even if you’re a convicted felon in prison. Sort of like Minecraft in a way!

There’s also an arcade mode, but I haven’t really bothered with it too much. It’s more similar to Fall Guys and let’s you do little minigames with friends.

All this said and done, there are some issues that would take this game from an 8, to an easy 10.

The biggest issue is that online servers only host up to 4 people. For a game this huge I’d love to see bigger lobbies. It’s already chaotic as it is, but I can just imagine how fun it would be with dozens of people running around. There’s also not any NPC’s on the streets. The only ones you’ll find are the shopkeepers or quest givers. Having NPC’s – and maybe even animals – run around would make the game feel less lonely and way more interactive and fun. I sort of understand that they might not want to add NPC’s to a game where frantic children are driving super cop cars everywhere. Having people run over, or even throw around, NPC’s could compromise the family friendly aspect of the game, but I’d lie if I said that I care. The idea is just way too fun. They could maybe even add it as a setting with a lock on it to prevent children from accessing it.

Whether you have children, sit alone at 2am or is a convicted felon, I truly believe this game will give you a few laughs, and a lot of smiles. 9/10!
